Description
Deliciously sweet caramelized apple chunks flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg, perfect for desserts or breakfast toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- A pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into chunks.
- Caramelize the Sugar: In a medium-sized pan over medium heat, add the sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar melts and turns a light amber color.
- Add Butter and Apples: Carefully add the butter to the caramelized sugar. Stir until the butter is fully melted and mixed in. Add the apple chunks and stir to coat them in the caramel mixture.
- Seasoning: Sprinkle the ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt over the apples. Add the lemon juice and vanilla extract. Stir well.
- Cook Until Tender: Reduce the heat to low and allow the apples to cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and well-coated with the caramel sauce.
- Finish and Serve: Once done, remove the pan from the heat. Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Apple Variety: Different apple types will offer varying textures and sweetness levels, so feel free to experiment.
- Stir Constantly: When caramelizing sugar, ensure to stir continuously to prevent burning.
- Serving Suggestions: These caramelized apple chunks pair wonderfully with ice cream, pancakes, or yogurt.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat gently before serving.
