Description
A delightful lemon custard dessert topped with meringue, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large egg yolks
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
- 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
- 3 large egg whites
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for meringue)
- Lemon slices (for garnish)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Custard: In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1 cup of sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually add the egg yolks and milk, whisking constantly until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon zest and lemon juice.
- Prepare the Meringue: In a clean, dry bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until they form soft peaks. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar, beating on high speed until stiff and glossy peaks form.
- Assemble the Dessert: Pour the lemon custard into a baking dish. Spread the meringue over the custard, sealing it to the edges of the dish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the dessert to cool for at least 30 minutes. Garnish with lemon slices and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Whisking: Ensure you whisk continuously to prevent the custard from burning or becoming lumpy.
- Zest: Use fresh lemons for zest and juice for the best flavor.
- Meringue: Make sure no egg yolk is in the whites for a stable meringue.
- Cooling: Let the dessert cool completely to allow the flavors to meld.
