Description

A delicious and elegant dessert that combines chocolate and hazelnuts in a light Swiss roll.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup hazelnut spread (e.g., Nutella)
  • 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate (for ganache)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.

In another large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until thick and pale. This should take about 5 minutes.

    Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture until just combined.

  3. Spread the batter evenly onto the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cake springs back when touched lightly.

  4. While the cake is still warm, turn it out onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar.

Carefully peel off the parchment paper.

Roll the cake with the towel from the short end, forming a log. Allow it to cool completely.

  5. Once the cake is cooled, unroll it gently.

Spread a layer of hazelnut spread over the cake.

    Sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts.

  6. In a bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

Spread the whipped cream over the hazelnut filling.

  7. Reroll the cake without the towel tightly and place it seam-side down on a serving platter.

  8. Melt the dark chocolate and butter together until smooth.

Allow it to cool slightly before drizzling over the cake.

  9. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before slicing.

Notes

  • Be gentle when rolling to avoid cracking.
  • Use room temperature eggs for better volume.
  • You can add a dash of espresso powder to the batter for a deeper chocolate flavor.
  • Ensure the ganache is cool but still pourable before drizzling.
