Description

Indulge in a luxurious dessert with this Decadent Red Velvet Lava Cake, featuring a rich chocolate center and vibrant red color.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 4 oz dark chocolate (for the lava center)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease 4 ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder, tapping out the excess.

  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract and red food coloring.

  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, and mix until smooth and combined.

  5. Prepare Chocolate Centers: Divide the dark chocolate into 4 equal portions.

  6. Assemble Ramekins: Spoon a portion of the red velvet batter into each ramekin, filling halfway. Place a portion of dark chocolate in the center of each ramekin. Cover with the remaining batter until 3/4 full.

  7. Bake: Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake for 14-16 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  8. Serve: Allow the cakes to cool for 1 minute before inverting onto plates. Dust with powdered sugar before serving warm.

Notes

  • Ensure the chocolate pieces are fully coated with batter to prevent leaking.
  • Avoid overbaking to ensure a gooey center.
  • Serve immediately for the best molten effect.
  • For added flavor, incorporate a teaspoon of coffee into the batter for depth.
