Description
Enjoy your fluffy, jam-filled treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup jam or jelly of your choice
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
- Make the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add in the yeast mixture, eggs, and butter. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Shape the Donuts: Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into rounds using a donut cutter or two differently sized round cutters.
- Second Rise: Place the cut donuts on a floured surface, cover, and let them rise until puffy, about 30-45 minutes.
- Fry the Donuts: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts a few at a time until golden brown on each side, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Fill with Jam: Once cool enough to handle, use a piping bag fitted with a nozzle to fill each donut with jam.
- Dust with Sugar: Dust the filled donuts with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature to prevent donuts from becoming greasy.
- For variety, use different flavored jams or add a bit of lemon zest to the dough for extra flavor.
- Test the dough’s readiness by pressing a finger into it; if it springs back slowly, it’s ready.
