Description

Delicious and festive puff pastry trees filled with basil pesto and Parmesan cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry (Thawed)
  • 1/2 cup Basil Pesto (Drained of excess oil)
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (Or Pecorino Romano or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 large Egg (Beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Seeds (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper (Adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface. Roll it to an even thickness, about 1/8 inch, and then spread the basil pesto evenly across the pastry.
  3. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese generously over the pesto layer.
  4. Fold the pastry in half lengthwise to lock in those fillings. Cut the pastry into strips that are about ½ inch wide.
  5. Twist each strip to form spirals and shape them into little trees on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Brush each tree with the beaten egg. If desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds or crushed red pepper.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Cool the trees slightly before serving.

Notes

  • These puff pastry trees are perfect for holiday gatherings.
  • Adjust the crushed red pepper to control the heat level.
  • Feel free to use different types of cheese based on preference.
