Description

A delicious pie filled with savory beef and spices, wrapped in crispy phyllo pastry.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, cooked and shredded
  • 1 pack of phyllo pastry sheets
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp thyme leaves
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Filling: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent. Add the mushrooms (if using) and continue to sauté until softened. Stir in the shredded beef, beef broth, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until most of the liquid is reduced. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Pie: Brush a baking dish with melted butter. Layer 3-4 phyllo sheets in the dish, brushing each with butter. Spread half of the beef filling over the phyllo. Add another 3-4 layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Spread the remaining beef filling. Finish with 3-4 more phyllo layers, again brushing each with butter.
  4. Bake: Place the assembled pie in the preheated oven. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the phyllo is golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • Keep phyllo sheets covered with a damp cloth to prevent them from drying out while assembling the pie.
  • If you prefer a spicier filling, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle some grated cheese between the layers.
  • Serve with a dollop of yogurt or a fresh salad to complement the savory flavors.
