Description

A delicious dish featuring chicken breasts simmered in a rich marinara sauce with mushrooms and herbs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • for garnish Fresh basil or parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper on both sides.

  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken breasts and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  3. Cook the Mushrooms: In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms. Sauté until they become tender and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.

  4. Prepare the Marinara Sauce: Reduce heat to low and pour the marinara sauce over the mushrooms. Add the oregano and stir well to combine.

  5. Combine and Simmer: Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the chicken to heat through.

  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Serve hot with your choice of pasta, rice, or bread.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of white wine to the sauce while simmering.
  • If you prefer a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute chicken with turkey or tofu for a different protein option.
  • For a creamier version, stir in a splash of cream or a dollop of mascarpone before serving.
