Description

Delightful star-shaped pastries filled with soft cheese and topped with jam and nuts, perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 cup soft cheese (like Brie or Camembert)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons apricot or fig jam
  • 2 tablespoons crushed nuts (like walnuts or almonds)
  • A pinch salt
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Using a star-shaped cookie cutter, cut out star shapes from the puff pastry.

  3. Add the Cheese: Place a small piece of soft cheese in the center of each star-shaped pastry. Fold the tips of the stars slightly inwards to gently enclose the cheese.

  4. Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the pastry stars with the egg wash. This will give them a golden brown color when baked.

  5. Bake: Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

  6. Add Toppings: Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool slightly. Top each pastry with a small dollop of jam and sprinkle with crushed nuts. Add a touch of rosemary or thyme for garnish if desired.

  7. Serve: Serve warm as an appetizer or a delightful snack.

Notes

  • Cheese Variations: Feel free to experiment with different types of soft cheese to suit your taste.
  • Sweet or Savory Option: Adjust the topping to be more savory by using caramelized onions or a savory jam.
  • Storage: Leftover pastries can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
