Description

A rich and creamy macaroni and cheese recipe that’s sure to please the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups water or broth
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup evaporated milk (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add dry macaroni to a medium pot. Pour in enough water or broth to just cover the pasta. Add a pinch of salt and bring it to a gentle boil.
  2. Stir often and keep the heat at a steady simmer. When the pasta is about 1 minute away from done, you should have a little liquid still in the pot.
  3. Remove from the heat. Add butter and stir until melted.
  4. Stir in milk (and evaporated milk if using). Stir for about 30 seconds.
  5. Add shredded cheese in handfuls, stirring between each one until smooth.
  6. Remove from heat and let it sit for 2 minutes.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add cooked bacon or breadcrumbs on top before serving.
