A rich and creamy macaroni and cheese recipe that’s sure to please the whole family.
Ingredients

- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 4 cups water or broth
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup evaporated milk (optional)
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
Instructions
- Add dry macaroni to a medium pot. Pour in enough water or broth to just cover the pasta. Add a pinch of salt and bring it to a gentle boil.
- Stir often and keep the heat at a steady simmer. When the pasta is about 1 minute away from done, you should have a little liquid still in the pot.
- Remove from the heat. Add butter and stir until melted.
- Stir in milk (and evaporated milk if using). Stir for about 30 seconds.
- Add shredded cheese in handfuls, stirring between each one until smooth.
- Remove from heat and let it sit for 2 minutes.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add cooked bacon or breadcrumbs on top before serving.
