Ingredients

- 3 cups whole milk
- 3 egg yolks
- 0 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 0 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 4–5 bananas (sliced)
- 1 box vanilla wafers
- 1 cup whipped cream (optional)
Instructions
- Whisk milk, egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan until smooth.
- Heat over medium, whisking constantly until thick and glossy.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter.
- Slice bananas just before assembling.
- Layer wafers, bananas, and warm custard in a dish; repeat layers.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Top with whipped cream before serving, if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the bananas are sliced right before serving to keep them from browning.
- For an additional flavor, you can add a sprinkle of cinnamon between the layers.
