Description

A delicious and elegant savory mushroom tart made with flaky puff pastry and sautéed mushrooms.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 cups mushrooms (such as cremini or button), sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or mozzarella)
  • Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. Cut into equal-sized squares or rectangles. Score a border around each piece, about 1/2 inch from the edge, without cutting all the way through.
  3. Sauté Mushrooms: Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until golden brown. Add garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Assemble Tarts: Place the puff pastry pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle about a tablespoon of grated cheese on each pastry within the scored border. Top with the sautéed mushrooms.
  5. Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water. Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh thyme or parsley. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Make sure the puff pastry is cold before baking; this helps it puff up better.
  • You can add a pinch of chili flakes to the mushroom mixture for a bit of heat.
  • Experiment with different types of mushrooms or cheese to suit your taste.
